Video of Personal Land Dispute Passed Off as Sand Mafia Threatening Citizens
A viral video has been circulating on social media alleging that sand mafias from Lankala Gannavaram village of P. Gannavaram mandal, East Godavari are threatening citizens with a gun. In actual fact, the case in question is that of personal land disputes – a clash between two groups over four acres of land. When the verbal argument escalated, Rahul, a youth brandished his pistol-like-weapon to intimidate the other party.
Upon receiving this information, P. Gannavaram Police reached the location, confiscated the weapon and took Rahul into custody. During interrogation, it was found that the weapon is a dummy gun, usually used in the fields to scare birds and is not a weapon used for killing. The air pistol was also sent to FSL to determine the legality of its possession. Relevant FIRs were filed at the local police station against both parties, including but not limited to Section 25 (1-B) of the Arms Act 1959. Counter cases were also filed by the defendants.br>
The East Godavari police were informed about the false narratives floating across social media channels, with a political agenda, to incite netizens. The police held a press conference explaining the incident and warned people to not spread misinformation.
